The Castle of Fontanar, in Bornos, was an ancient Arabic fortress from which some paintings of the wall and tower are preserved. In the 16th century it was completely restored and transformed, receiving the name of Palace of the Ribera.

The result is a Plateresque building which has some elements that stand out above the rest. Its spacious courtyard, surrounded by a beautiful cloister with stilted arches and the upper gallery with arcades of the same type; the marble fountain, brought from Italy, with the shield of the Ribera; it’s beautiful gardens and a lodge, the only Pompeian main facade from the 16th century that exists in Andalusia.
