The Plaza de España in Vejer de la Frontera has its origins in the 16th century when the city exceeded the existing walled enclosure.
During subsequent centuries it was used for the celebration of different bullfighting activities. The current appearance of this corner, including the central fountain is due to a remodeling carried out in the mid-20th century.
