Bodegas Lustau – Jerez de la Frontera
Bodegas Lustau is the only winery that produces wine in the Sherry Triangle area: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
They have been long recognized. In 2011 they were awarded with the “Best Spanish Winery” award in London, at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. In 2012, it was the most awarded winery in Spain and the seventh worldwide. In 2014 it became the “Best Winery of Jerez“. In 2015 it became once again the most awarded winery in Spain and the eighth in the world.
The complex of Bodegas Los Arcos, built in the nineteenth century, houses six aging cellars that date back from different times and the main headquarters of the company. Visiting it is to enjoy a cathedral-style winery with high ceilings and immaculate albero floors that maintain a stable temperature and humidity to favor the special microclimate that Sherry wines need.
During the visit to the winery, you will be able to get to know the history of the winery. It was founded in 1896 by Don José Ruiz-Berdejo, who began modestly growing the vineyards at his property, known as Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. His son-in-law, Don Emilio Lustau Ortega, played an important role in expanding the business, which is nowadays a reference for international quality and prestige.
The guided tour requires an appointment and ends with a wine tasting from the winery.
Definitely a must see if you are visiting Jerez de la Frontera.
