Baluarte de la Candelaria
The Candelaria Bastion was built on a projection angle of land in 1672, whose strategic location between San Felipe and the fortifications near the Caleta meant a great improvement for the protection of the western front.
It is the most ambitious defensive structure built in Cádiz in the second half of the 17th century and the best preserved example of its kind in the city.
On the slope of the exterior walls a series of bunkers are arranged, delimiting the enclosure are two buildings from the 19th century. In the late 20th century rehabilitation jobs were undertaken to adapt the building to its current cultural use, including most notably the exhibition and music fields.
