The Sancti Petri marshes are tidal types of marshes, they are areas of high landscape value, since they are one of the few places that still have not been altered to use as salt evaporation ponds.
The island status and the existence of significant woodland (Pinar del Coto de la Isleta) in the highest areas, contribute clearly to provide a picture of what the dominant natural landscape must have been like at another time in the Bay of Cadiz.
