The Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park is identified as one of the most valuable ecological areas in the southern peninsula and therefore of great importance in the rest of the territory.
It is a biosphere reserve (Unesco) and special protection area for birds.
As a curiosity, it has the highest rate of rainfall in the Iberian Peninsula and constitutes the most important Western massif of the subbeticas ranges. Predominately steep villages, caves and grottoes and winding gorges. And it is noted for having an important forest of firs, considered a relic plant from the tertiary period.
