Puerto Serrano

"Puerto Serrano is the starting point of the Via Verde of la Sierra de Cádiz. A village to practice active tourism or to simple relax. "

Puerto Serrano welcomes you with a set of typical mountain houses surrounded by orange trees. This villa has numerous archaeological sites which confirm human presence since the Paleolithic and continuity during the Roman and Hispano-Muslim colonization. Among the highlights is Fuente de Ramos and the Almendral, or the ancient Roman settlement of Cerro Castelar and of the Marciagos. In the surroundings you can also visit the interesting village of Pozo Amargo, with the ruins of its castle.
In its historic center stands the Baroque Parish Church of Santa María Magdalena (with a beautiful altarpiece), the Magdalena Hermitage and the Molino de Siré (Sire mill), former Carmelite convent from the 18th-19 century.
From the town starts the Vía Verde de la Sierra, which is ideal for hiking, biking horseback riding, or simple to relax. The route runs along the so called Green paths that run along the old railway line Jerez-Almargen, being passable 35 km. between the towns of Puerto Serrano and Olvera.
