The mountain village is situated on the slopes of the Sierra del Jaral within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and the village later was declared a Historic Site. The current Zahara was founded in the Muslim period preserving in this medieval village the keep and some remains of sections of the old walls.
Its location along the slope gives the village a distinctive urban landscape. The different levels require the streets to be stepped. In this charming town stands the Santa María de la Mesa Church, the San Juan de Letrán Chapel, the Clock Tower and the Palominos Bridge. During the feast of Corpus Christi, declared of National Tourist Interest, not only can you enjoy the fine decoration but also allows you to taste their local cuisine, with dishes such as the onion quemones, the Hervías soups and sugary liquor cakes.
The Zahara-El Gastor reservoir also offers wonderful scenery, multiple options for sports activities. In the Arroyomolinos recreational area visitors can swim in the artificial beach of the Sierra de Cádiz.
