Taverns in Cadiz Province
The taverns are very typical in the province of Cadiz, they are identified as a public establishment, which is very popular, where they serve and sell drinks and sometimes you can eat. They are like small charming bars, where the culture of the city in which they are located can be found. They are usually very old and with a lot of history.
There different ways of calling these, even in the same province there are four different ways: “tabanco” in Jerez de la Frontera, “güichi” in San Fernando, “bodeguita” in Sanlúcar or “bache” in Cadiz capital.
But, more than that, it is a meeting place where people (where until recently only men could enter) share their experiences of daily life or where they organize a spontaneous gathering and that, at times, are treasures of the gastronomic offering and an oenological of the province. In some you can even enjoy flamenco shows.
In general, they usually have good wines of the land: chamomiles, fino, oloroso and amontillados, among others. They also offer good home-made snacks, dishes or traditional specialties, including different hams and cheeses.
